Who are we?

The first generation of the Cottrell family moved to Gundenham, on the outskirts of Wellington, in the 1920’s, to farm this beautiful part of Somerset.  Adopting traditional farming methods to hand produce rich, creamy milk.

During the early 1930’s, Tom Cottrell started selling his milk direct to households, ladling the milk from a churn, which was carried in the back of a pony and trap. From these beginnings a thriving family business has grown.

It’s no surprise that things have changed somewhat in milk production since the 1920’s but what hasn’t changed is the Cottrell family’s relationship with the local community and our dedication to retaining some of the traditional farming methods that make the quality and taste of our milk and dairy products so exceptional.

The third and fourth generation of Cottrell’s are now farming Gundenham, with all the passion and care that comes with a deep affinity to the land.  The majority of our 500 acres of prime Somerset pastureland is given over to providing food and grazing for our herd of around 350 Holstein Friesians.  Our animal husbandry and traditional practices ensure that the quality of our homegrown milk, cream and potatoes are never compromised.

This farm represents the toil and triumphs of our family, and inspires us to always strive for the best; never taking shortcuts that could impact on our service or products.

Our core values of quality, reliability, flexibility and customer care remain the same as they did in the 1930’s.
